About Me

I teach AP English to high school sophomores and seniors, and although this job was my destiny,  I am a late bloomer.  I have a B.A. in English (1975 – ouch!) and my Masters in Education (after 3 perfect children).  Reading transports me; writing heals me.

I was awarded a Fund for Teachers Grant to travel to Scotland and the Lake District of England to follow in the footsteps of great writers who lived in and wrote about this landscape in the 19th and late 18th century:  Sir Walter Scott, Robert Burns, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Percy Shelley, John Keats, Robert Southey are the first who come to mind.  Rather than dwell on all the museums and homesteads (which I will of course visit), my goal is to literally walk in their footsteps with a compass, a camera and daypack, writing and reading along the way. My hope is to record this experience on this blog and that you will interact with me through your comments.  At the end of my post on the main page, there should be a Comments link which will not only open up to the comments already made, but if you scroll down, will provide a window where you can add your thoughts.   If you write poetry, this would be a great place to share it. I’ve linked various sites in my posts – poems you should read, for example, or a youtube in my second post – so look for the slight variation in the color of the text (I wish it were more obvious) and click to see more. I’ve already written more posts than can appear in the five allowed on “Recent Posts,” so if you want to see the earlier portion of my trip, click on “archive.”  Isn’t this fun?

  1. Already I am inspired beyond words. Patti, your writing is poetry to me and I will eagerly await each of your postings. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Well, the month of June just got a lot more interesting! I’ll travel along with you, friend and muse. I don’t know the lake district well enough to know if I should be picturing you upon a heath, but somehow I doubt it. Now it’s time to get out my Norton’s Anthology and re-discover some of the poets you mentioned. I am very excited and intrigued by your adventure and am quite happy to tag along. Onward ho!
